{"id":978,"date":"2010-04-14T23:59:11","date_gmt":"2010-04-14T20:59:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.optimiced.com\/en\/?p=978"},"modified":"2010-04-15T13:45:31","modified_gmt":"2010-04-15T10:45:31","slug":"adobe-fireworks-cs5-is-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.optimiced.com\/en\/2010\/04\/14\/adobe-fireworks-cs5-is-out\/","title":{"rendered":"Adobe Fireworks CS5 is out&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;and I recommend it to you with all my heart!<\/p>\n<p>This time, the Fireworks version is much better than the previous one (CS4), and I think the Fireworks Team has done a fantastic job!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.adobe.com\/products\/fireworks\/\" title=\"Adobe Fireworks CS5 - the new product page\">Fireworks CS5<\/a> is fast, stable, with a minimum of bugs, it starts fast, it works fast, and doesn&#8217;t require so much memory. It works equally well under latest MacOS X versions, as well as under Windows XP\/Vista\/7.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.adobe.com\/devnet\/logged_in\/bbowman_fwcs5.html\" title=\"Fireworks CS5 in detail - an extended article by Bruce Bowman\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.optimiced.com\/wp-uploads\/2010\/04\/adobe-fireworks-cs4-vs-cs5.640.png\" alt=\"Adobe Fireworks CS4\/CS5 (logos)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Quick list of improvements:<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; the tools in version CS5 are almost the same, but now you can also create\/edit <strong>Compound Shapes<\/strong> &#8212; special groups of vector objects that give you even more creative vector power;<br \/>\n&#8212; the <strong>.ase<\/strong> color swatches are now supported by Fireworks (this is Adobe Swatch Exchange format, which is supported by Photoshop and Illustrator, too);<br \/>\n&#8212; the <strong>text engine<\/strong> has some new features that will allow you to work with text even easier and faster than before (multi-selection of words in one text block, &#8220;select similar&#8221; option, better text undo-redo, and many other tiny improvements);<br \/>\n&#8212; export to <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/opensource.adobe.com\/wiki\/display\/flexsdk\/FXG+2.0+Specification\">FXG 2.0<\/a><\/strong> is now possible;<br \/>\n&#8212; importing of vector (and bitmap) objects from Illustrator CS5\/Photoshop CS5 is almost perfect;<br \/>\n&#8212; gradients in Fireworks CS5 (linear and radial types) now have also a <strong>dithering<\/strong> option, which fixes any possible &#8220;banding&#8221; issues;<br \/>\n&#8212; the PI (Property Inspector) panel &#8220;refresh&#8221; times have been reduced, and now the PI works much faster (this applies especially to the Windows version of Fireworks);<br \/>\n&#8212; the PI panel is also much more powerful now, with new Stroke options built-in, and a new &#8220;lock proportions&#8221; option for modifying any object on the canvas;<br \/>\n&#8212; new <strong>Snap-to-Pixel<\/strong> option (just apply ctrl\/cmd+K shortcut to any object or group of objects that may appear blurry on the canvas, as a result of some complex transformation, and the blurriness is gone!);<br \/>\n&#8212; possibility to create and open new files from pre-built <strong>templates<\/strong> (plus, you can now create your own templates and share them in a small team);<br \/>\n&#8212; integration with <strong>Adobe Device Central<\/strong>;<br \/>\n&#8212; better integration with Flash Catalyst, Illustrator and Photoshop;<br \/>\n&#8212; and many, many more!<\/p>\n<p>Bruce Bowman, the Product Manager for Fireworks, already <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.adobe.com\/fireworks\/2010\/04\/announcing_adobe_fireworks_cs5.html\">announced the new Fireworks version<\/a>, and then also published a <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.adobe.com\/devnet\/logged_in\/bbowman_fwcs5.html\">detailed article<\/a><\/strong> on the new Fireworks features and improvements (if you&#8217;re wondering if you should make the switch to CS5 &#8212; read the article &#8212; it will answer your questions thoroughly!).<\/p>\n<p>Not only this &#8212; currently the Fireworks Team also works on a <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.adobe.com\/fireworks\/2010\/03\/fireworks_cs4_update_coming_so.html\">new bugfix patch for version CS4<\/a>, which will also improve the older version of Fireworks.<\/p>\n<p>There are already some reviews\/articles to be found online, about Fireworks CS5:<br \/>\n&#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heathrowe.com\/topfwcs5features.aspx\">Top 5 Fireworks CS5 Features<\/a>,<br \/>\n&#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webdesignerdepot.com\/2010\/04\/adobe-creative-suite-5-brings-sexy-back\/\">Adobe Creative Suite 5 Brings Sexy Back<\/a>,<br \/>\n&#8230;and overall, the reviews are quite positive up to now. I hope I will write a more detailed article about Fw CS5, too (this is just a quick look, an overview).<\/p>\n<p>My personal opinion is: If you are using currently Fireworks CS4, don&#8217;t even think, but upgrade to Fireworks CS5 right away!<\/p>\n<p><strong>It&#8217;s worth it!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Finally, let&#8217;s not forget to mention that Fireworks is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.isfireworksbetterthanphotoshop.com\/\" title=\"is Fireworks better than Photoshop?\">better<\/a> than Photoshop &#8212; especially when working with vectors and doing any kind of design job for Web\/screen, and also for prototyping\/wireframing! ;-)<\/p>\n<p><em>(NOTE: You&#8217;ll have still to wait at least a month, before you can order or download the 30-days trial of Fireworks CS5. The Adobe CS5 apps will be available to the public officially in mid-May 2010.
